So, what is a SMART board?

ž-A SMART board is a combination of a simple white board and a computer.
-It is touch controlled and works with a computer and a projector.
ž-A SMART board can be used to take notes, brainstorm ideas, save notes, practice problems, show presentations, and much more.
ž
History of SMART boards

ž-The first SMART board was introduced in 1991 by SMART technologies.
ž-It was the first interactive white board to provide touch control of computer applications
ž-The SMART board started off slow due to slow modems, slow processors, and Microsoft Windows software that was unstable.

žWhat can SMART boards do?

-The touch screen connects to your computer and digital projector and shows your computer image.
-You can control computer applications directly from the board; write notes with the SMART pens and save your work for later use.
-SMART boards can do everything a normal computer can do, as well as everything a simple white board can do.
-The advantage of SMART boards over white boards is that notes can be saved directly from the board to the computer.
-SMART boards can convert text to speech and hand writing to text.

Benefits of using A SMART board
- SMART boards are great for accomodating different learning styles
Hands on learners can use the board, while visual learners can see the board, and auditory learners can listen to the teacher or videos played on the board.
-Teachers can save student ideas directly from the SMART board to use at a later date.
-The SMART board is visually stimulating and engages students better than a normal white board, which makes the teachers job a tiny bit easier.
- SMART boards maximize computer access in a one computer classroom.
-SMART boards give teachers many new ways to teach a lesson.

How SMART boards can be used in the classroom
ž
-Write incorrect sentences on the board for students to correct.
-Ideas can be brainstormed as a group and can be saved directly from the board to be handed out to students.
-Presentations such as PowerPoint can be viewed and notes can be added by students.

-Notes can be taken as a group or presented by the teacher and saved to a computer using the SMART board.
-They can maximize access to the computer in classes where there are only one.

-The SMART board is great for demonstrations
-Any other basic computer software can be used on the SMART board (i.e the Internet and inspiration)
-Basically if you can use a computer… you can use a SMART board!

This was really informative. Nice job. I have seen classrooms that use smart boards and there are learning games that the students can play with the SMART board that coincide with thier vocabulary for the week. Im not sure of the company who puts it out but it was really fun to see the kids actaully usuing the SMART boards. They know almost more about it then we do and they loved usuing the technology!!

I would also like to thank everyone for the wonderful comments. I am glad the presentation is enjoyable. I finally got to use a SMART board for the first time in the CML. It was pretty amazing, and because I did this mini-teach I knew exactly how to use it. Thank you again for all of the comments and feedback!
